Gynecology (most notably the treatment of menstrual disorders, chronic states of depletion, pregnancy support, postpartum recovery, and fertility) is one of the medical specialties where Chinese medicine has a treasure trove of diagnostic and therapeutic tools to offer any medical practitioner. Many of these were already firmly established in the first millennium CE. In this course, Sabine Wilms will introduce practitioners to the little known theoretical, and clinical roots of this practice in classical Chinese medicine. After presenting these roots in their cultural and historical context, we will then explore the meaning of this information for the modern medical practitioner. Hereby we will critically explore (and perhaps question) our own, often unconscious, assumptions about the female body and differences to the male body, about the “health” and “illness” of this body, and about treatment goals and techniques
